My Aunt and Uncle raised me -- they were hard working middle class people, with grandchildren my age. They guided me with real common sense values to impress upon me in my growing years -- My Uncle would often say to me, "Don't be a jack of all trades...Be a master of one."

In looking back on my almost three decade career, I know my Uncle would have been proud to know that I became a master in my field and a successful expert wedding photographer - But that doesn't mean I'm only expert at capturing wedding day as a beautiful story of love unfolding -- because wedding day image making is so much more than just photography.

Who will be the one that's with you throughout the most special day of your life, besides the one you love and will marry? Answer: Your photographer -- The one you've entrusted to capture this amazing day for the both of you, your family, friends, and posterity.

Knowing how and when to step into intimate moments, deal with family, and wedding party, and guests, requires a great deal of tact and diplomacy, and skill.  This is where I must say, I shine ... I love people, and after having photographed hundreds of weddings, I understand their needs and sensitivities, especially on wedding day. This is also essential for capturing people at their best and to maintain a fun atmosphere – and not to intrude.

I have taught photography -- but if I were to teach a class on wedding photography -- it would equally be about the importance of social grace and relationships, as it would be about story telling, and love-filled image making.

Background: Doreen Birdsell Studios has been the recommended house photographer at the Boathouse in Central Park; the Inn at Longshore, Westport, CT; the Stamford Yacht Club, Stamford, CT; Liberty House, Jersey City; NJ, the Red Inn in Provincetown, MA, to name a few – and Planetree International, whose mission is to bring patient centered health care to hospitals throughout the world.

Producer - Documentary - Longshore 50 - Produced for the Town of Westport, CT in celebration of their 67 acre beachfront-park land acquisition and gift to its residents - Westport, CT was our home for more than fifteen years -- and still holds our heart.

Visual arts background - Doreen Birdsell Studios, Photography and Video is celebrating over 25 years as a photography and video studio with work featured in Modern Bride, Westport Magazine, Golf World, Wedding Pages Magazine and many other publications and annual reports throughout the years. First published in New York Magazine, my career began photographing fashion in 1980. A passion for shooting fashion on location evolved to also include wedding photography in 1987.

I have found that photographing fashion, editorial, fine art, product, and even family pets has been a great asset in shooting weddings which has an application for so many of these special aspects of photography.  However, the greatest gift has been clients who feel more like friends and knowing that their images will bless so many for lifetimes to come.

I've also had the privilege of photographing for many Fortune 500 companies, numerous celebrities, and was commissioned to travel to Italy and Greece by a prominent archaeologist to photograph, in large format sheet film, more than twenty-five archeological sites in a series entitled "The Golden Age." The show has had gallery exhibitions in both NYC and in Greenwich, CT.

The American Cancer offered me the opportunity to be their photographer, ten years consecutively, for Paws for a Cause, raising awareness and funds for cancer research for dogs.
